Meleto is an ancient village exposed on the north-west side of the municipal territory, of which it is known even starting from 970 AD, the year in which it is mentioned in a donation of the Gran Conte Ugo Marchese of Tuscany to the Badia, founded by him above Poggibonsi.

In the first documents, the people of Meleto were gathered around a church – San Rossino and Santa Cristina – belonging to the Piviere di Gaville. The village rises on the ancient Pian d’Avane, next to what was Pianfranzese, from the Franzesi family
